Why do people use debit cards instead of credit cards?
People use debit cards instead of
credit cards because using your savings is better than paying extra charges.
Yes, when you utilize your debit card,
the money within it is earned by you and hence you don’t have to pay interest
or extra charges when you swipe your card.
When you utilize your best credit cards, the
money within it is not yours but of the Bank and hence it is owed by you. At
the end of the month you will have to pay the total amount + the interest or
extra charges applicable for each time you swiped your card.
Debit card = your money
Credit card = Bank’s money
Remembering this will make it easy for
you to understand that it’s better to utilize your debit card. But owning a
credit card is also necessary in today’s time as when you require immediate
funds for emergencies and some unplanned expenses a credit card can come handy.
Hence overall it’s always best to use
your debit card and keep a credit card only for emergencies.
Also, it is advisable to maintain a
contingency fund which must be 3-4 months of your current salary. This helps
you to be firm in financial crunch situations.
